Course Selection

Because of its esteemed universities, great employment opportunities, and chances for post-study work, studying in the UK is a common choice among Nepali students. Students should concentrate on highly sought-after disciplines including engineering, business, information technology (IT), healthcare nursing, medicine, and data science when choosing a course since these fields present great job prospects both in the UK and abroad. Particularly in programs like engineering (accredited by IET) and business (accredited by AACSB/AMBA), it is imperative to review the course curriculum to guarantee it includes practical components, including work placements, industry projects, or internships. Students should also look at industry alliances, university rankings (QS/Times Higher Education), and faculty experience since these elements improve employability and networking chances.

Understanding the Education System

Australia’s education system differs significantly from Nepal’s, and grasping its structure is vital for academic success and confidence. Universities operate on a semester system, with two main intakes: February/March and July/August, plus occasional smaller intakes for specific courses. Each semester lasts about 12-14 weeks, followed by exams and breaks. Grading system and analysis also varies according to universities. Orientation sessions, held before classes begin, are invaluable, covering course outlines, assessment methods and resources like libraries or online platforms. Attending these helps you align with Australian academic norms.

Life in South Korea

Settling In

Apply early for university dorms. Off-campus options include positions (budget studios) and shared apartments. Open an account with a passport and Alien Registration Card (ARC). Woori Bank and KEB Hana offer student-friendly services.

Part-Time Work

Regulations by the Ministry of Justice allow international students in full-time degree programs in Korea to work part-time for up to 20 hours per week during the semester. Unlimited hours are allowed during summer or winter vacations.

Healthcare

The international students with a D-2 Visa first need to obtain a registration card. Then, from next month, they can start contributing to their health insurance. The insurance package usually costs around 40000 KWN. Please go through the details of the insurance package before acquiring it. International students with a D-4 Visa can skip the first six months since they are on a language-learning visa. But, after six months, they have to pay for insurance every month.

Cultural Integration

Learn basic Korean for daily interactions. Join clubs like K-pop dance or Taekwondo. Attend festivals like Chuseok or Boryeong Mud Festival.
